Phimosis

Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis cannot be pulled back (retracted) to reveal the head of the penis (glans). It's common in infants and young boys, but usually resolves on its own as they grow older.

  • Inability to retract the foreskin
  • Seen in all age groups, more common in diabetic men
  • Symptoms -pain, redness , swelling , difficulty in passing urine , sudden inability to pull the foreskin ahead ( paraphimosis)
  • Treatment – Circumscision
  • Surgical procedure done under local anaesthesia +/- sedation on day-care basis in which the foreskin is removed.
  • It can be done by stapler circumscision also.
