Cancers can affect different organs like kidneys Renal cell carcinoma ( RCC) , ureters – upper tract urothelial carcinoma UTUC , urinary bladder – urothelial carcinoma of bladder , penis – carcinoma penis , testes – testicular carcinoma , prostate – carcinoma prostate Symptoms of the above include hematuria ( blood in urine ) abdominal pain , lump or swelling in the abdomen , swelling of penis or testes , ulcer over the penis, difficulty in passing urine and or other constitutional symptoms

Diagnosis
  • history taking and examination
  • Ultrasound or CT scan or MRI
  • Blood tests for tumour markers
  • Urine cytology
  • Biopsy in select cases
Treatment

Based on the type of cancer and stage the treatment has to be decided . The different modalities of treatment include surgical treatment , chemotherapy , immunotherapy , radiation therapy, hormonal therapy. The goals of treatment can be curative intent( to make the patient cancer free) or palliative intent ( to improve the quality of life by alleviating the symptoms ) .

Surgical treatment options include
  • Radical nephrectomy (Laparoscopic or open )
  • Partial nephrectomy (laparoscopic or open )
  • Radical nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff excision ( laparoscopic or open)
  • Transurethral resection of bladder tumour ( TURBT)
  • Radical cystectomy with ileal conduit( laparoscopic or open RCIC)
  • Radical prostatectomy ( open or laparoscopic RP)
  • Channel TURP
  • Partial or total penectomy with bilateral inguinal lymphaedenectomy
  • High inguinal orchidectomy
